How to use OnVid in ChatGPT

Add OnVid as an app in ChatGPT's Developer mode and create AI videos, talking avatars and multi-shot ads right from your chat — with your own OnVid account and credits.

Before you start

What you need

ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu on chatgpt.com (web), and an OnVid account. Rendering videos needs an OnVid Pro or Max plan; free preview stills work on any account.

1 Step 1

Turn on Developer mode

On chatgpt.com, open Settings → Security and login and switch on Developer mode. ChatGPT shows a short notice about apps you add yourself — accept it to continue.

Can't find it? Developer mode is web-only and not on the free plan. On Business or Enterprise, ask your workspace admin to enable it.
2 Step 2

Create the OnVid app

Open Plugins (apps) in ChatGPT, click + and choose Create app. Fill in:

  • Name: OnVid
  • Description: Create AI videos with my OnVid account
  • MCP server URL: https://mcp.onvid.ai/mcp
  • Authentication: OAuth (no client ID or secret needed)

Confirm you trust the app if asked, then click Create. It appears under Drafts.

Menu names move around as ChatGPT updates. If you see Settings → Apps & Connectors → Create instead, use that — the fields are the same.
3 Step 3

Sign in to OnVid and allow access

ChatGPT opens an OnVid page. Sign in (Google or email) and click Allow access. You return to ChatGPT with OnVid connected.

No OnVid account yet? Create one on the same page — it takes a few seconds.
4 Step 4

Add OnVid to a conversation

In a new chat, click + → Developer mode and select OnVid. ChatGPT can now use OnVid in that conversation.

5 Step 5

Ask for a video and confirm

Describe your video or attach a photo. ChatGPT shows what it will send to OnVid — click Confirm. A live card appears and updates until the video is ready.

  • Mention OnVid in your first request so ChatGPT picks it.
  • Attach images to animate them or keep a product or character consistent; attach a video to restyle it.
  • Every video is saved to your OnVid library.

Troubleshooting

If something doesn't work

  • No Developer mode option: use chatgpt.com in a browser on a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu account; on Business/Enterprise ask an admin to enable it.
  • OnVid can look things up but won't create: some ChatGPT plans limit developer-mode apps to read actions. Use Claude or the OnVid Agent inside the app instead.
  • ChatGPT doesn't use OnVid: add it via + → Developer mode and start with “Use OnVid to…”.
  • “Subscription required” or “not enough credits”: videos need an OnVid Pro or Max plan with credits. Ask for a cheaper model or a shorter clip, or a free preview still.
  • Session expired: open the OnVid app in ChatGPT's settings, disconnect and connect again.
  • Manage or revoke access any time on the ChatGPT & Claude page in OnVid.

FAQ

OnVid in ChatGPT — FAQ

Which ChatGPT plans can use OnVid?
OnVid connects through ChatGPT's Developer mode, which is available on the web for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts. On Business and Enterprise workspaces an admin may need to allow Developer mode first. It isn't available on the free plan.
Why do I see a warning about developer mode?
ChatGPT shows it for any app you add yourself, because OpenAI hasn't reviewed it. OnVid only connects to your own OnVid account after you approve access on an OnVid page, and you can disconnect at any time.
ChatGPT asks me to confirm before creating. Is that normal?
Yes. ChatGPT confirms actions that create something. Review the request and approve it; you can tell ChatGPT to remember your choice for the rest of the conversation.
Does it work in the ChatGPT mobile or desktop app?
Developer-mode apps currently run on chatgpt.com in the browser. Your videos are still available everywhere in your OnVid library.
Is OnVid an official Claude or ChatGPT app?
OnVid is an independent video platform. You add it yourself as a custom connector (Claude) or a developer-mode app (ChatGPT) using the server URL on this page. It connects only to your own OnVid account.
Does it cost extra to use OnVid inside Claude or ChatGPT?
No. The connector is free. Videos use your normal OnVid credits at the same price as in the OnVid app, and free preview stills cost nothing. Your Claude or ChatGPT plan is billed separately by Anthropic or OpenAI as usual.
Do I need an OnVid subscription?
To render videos, yes — an active Pro or Max plan. Without one you can still sign in, browse models, get cost estimates and create free preview stills.
How do I know what a video will cost before it's made?
Ask the assistant to estimate first ("how many credits would a 10 second 1080p clip cost?"). Every result also shows the exact credits used, and multi-shot productions always show the plan and estimate before anything renders.
Where do my videos go?
Straight to your OnVid library, exactly like videos made in the app. The chat shows a live card that updates until the video is ready.
How long does a video take?
Most clips take 1–5 minutes; long 30/60-second videos and multi-shot productions take longer. You can keep chatting while it renders.
Can I attach my own photos or videos?
Yes. In ChatGPT, attach an image to animate it or use it as a character/product reference, or a video to restyle it. In Claude and Claude Code, paste a public link to the image or video instead.
What happens if a generation fails?
The credits for it are refunded automatically. If the assistant retries the same request, OnVid reuses the original job, so you're never charged twice.
How do I disconnect?
Open ChatGPT & Claude in the OnVid app sidebar and click Disconnect next to the assistant — access stops immediately. You can also remove the connector in Claude or ChatGPT.

Prefer Claude?

Claude works on every plan, including desktop and mobile.
